I knew that Klee Wyck park was going to be good as soon as I saw its sign:
It's a terrible picture, but under the top sign that says Klee Wyck, there are signs for drama and artists' studios. The name comes from the famous artist, Emily Carr's book, so the presence of artistic culture is fitting. That's neat, but the really coolest part is the actual park.
Klee Wyck Park is located on the western bank of the Capilano River. The bank is very steep and incredibly steep and muddy. This is where one of my life tips comes in: Wear boots everywhere and then you can do everything. I was fine here, but Cole did a bit of slipping in his half-melted runners.
If you manage to survive until you get to the bottom on the hill, you will not be disappointed by what you see:
Klee Wyck Park includes the section of Capilano River directly underneath the highway. It's not unpleasant at all. The sound of rushing water either blends in perfectly with or overpowers the sound of cars. It's impossible to tell which. There are plenty of things to do in this location because there's a small island in the middle of the river that makes up for the banks being so narrow. There were also some fishermen on the opposite bank.
This place features some beautiful graffiti. Try to find this one:
Klee Wyck Park is a wonderful blend of art, nature and humanity. Emily Carr would be proud to see what an amazing place named after her work. This one is definitely worth a visit. Don't forget your boots!
PPR
Good: art galore, river, island, dramatic view of the highway
Bad: steep slope, so much mud, we found a crushed can of PBR (beware the hipsters)
