26th St. Park

Located at the foot of 26th St.

Upon discovering a beach park just one block past the always-popular Dunderave, one might think that they've discovered a secret beach where they can go to get away from it all without straying too far from central West Vancouver.

26th Street Park features a pleasant path from Lower Bellevue to the waterfront surrounded by trees that provide shade and well-groomed grass.

But that path is beaten. It shows signs of heavy use. There was a middle aged man sitting on a rickety old bench just behind a bush in the picture about with a six pack of beer and something hidden in his hands. This park is not the convenient solitude I imagined.

The beach, although it is lacking in creepy characters, is not exactly private either. You can see and hear Dunderave from there, and many people from the main park drift down towards 26th Street. It does, however, include this really cool rock:

When I visited Dunderave Park as a child, I always made a beeline for it. That just goes to show how close 26th Street Park is to Dunderave Park.

But if you were looking for a quiet spot on the beach, don't despair. Although they're not officially parks, there are beach access points at the foot of 27th, 28th, and 29th streets. They get increasingly quieter as you get further away from 25th Street and Dunderave.

PPR
Good: nice path, cool rock, convenient location
Bad: too many people, creepy man, the benches are rickety
4.5/10
